2012 Tech News Report: Porsche Design RIM BlackBerry P'9981 comes to the UK!

At first glimpse, we weren't sure what to make of the strange metal-clad QWERTY bar, bestowed with the all-important BlackBerry logo atop its display. We at first, speculated its legitimacy, whether it was ushering in a new design language for the brand as a whole, or if it was some strange custom or special edition device.
It so happens that we didn't have to wait long to find out its true intent. The hard lines and custom font etched onto that futuristic keyboard were the result of Porsche Design partnering up with the Canadian smartphone manufacturers to create something rather different. The result proved striking to say the least, but left many a 'Berry fan somewhat lost or at least unsure at how to react.

It wasn't until a month after its first appearance that we were given the true explanation for this peculiar device, but then everything made a little more sense. Dubbed the BlackBerry Porsche Design P'9981, it closely mirrored its everyday counterpart the Bold Touch 9900, with a 1.2GHz single core processor under the hood.
Other specs include a gig of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 5MP camera on the back with 720p HD video recording and of course BlackBerry OS 7, which in fact could make this the last BlackBerry out the gates before RIM focus their attentions on the BBX-laden 'Colt', or at least something like it.
The Porsche Design P'9981 was given its very own launch event in Dubai, back in late October with the choice of venue eluding to its luxury-focused target market. The P'9981 was expected to retail for around $2000 and now it comes to the UK market too. If you want one with the intention of giving it as a present for the big day, you only have a short window of opportunity left, but it's available for a cool £1275 at the world renowned Harrods department store in Knightsbridge, London. Reports from the store themselves saying that demand is high and the device is selling fast.
Will you be picking up this unique 'Berry, or perhaps making it a very special gift this holiday season?

New Palm Pre 2 may keep the old design, but will boost the specs (mobile, phone, news, report, Auckland)

The French carrier SFR published some information on the yet unannounced Palm Pre 2. According to the published ad, the new phone will keep the recognizable curved design, but will have a 1Ghz CPU.

SFR already removed the article from its website, but the information has already escaped in the wild. Palm Pre 2 should pack a Cortex A8 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM (like Pre Plus). It is supposed to run on the new webOS 2.0.

We don't know if keeping exactly the same design is a good idea, but there is nothing certain yet. We'll hold our thoughts until the official announcement.

Android, Apple iPhone 4: What is Super WiFi? (Tech, news, report, Auckland, "iPhone Repair")

The FCC just cleared a path for a new generation of "Super Wi-Fi" technologies. Sounds great! But what the heck is Super Wi-Fi?  http://tiny.cc/superwifi

Super Wi-Fi is still Wi-Fi...

It's not as though Super Wi-Fi is some entirely alien concept. For all intents and purposes, it's Wi-Fi! The same kind of wireless data transmission you use around your apartment or at the office or waiting in line at Starbucks. It's just much, much more powerful.

...but on a new spectrum...

As John explained previously, pretty much all Wi-Fi activity takes place on the same 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequencies. For the first time in 25 years, though, the FCC has opened up a sizable new block of unlicensed spectrum, this time between 50MHz and 700MHz.
...that lives in between your TV channels...

Ever since television went entirely digital, folks like Google have been lobbying, literally, to free up the airwaves between channels. The so-called "white spaces" would otherwise have been lying around unused or been subject to prohibitive regulatory precautions.

...that's much more powerful than what we have today...

Unlike current Wi-Fi airwaves, whose reach can be measured in feet, the spectrum that would carry Super Wi-Fi would be able to travel for several miles because of that lower frequency. Through brick walls, even—something your Linksys really struggles with. You can also anticipate download speeds of 15Mbps to 20Mbps—about as fast as a cable modem.
...that shouldn't interfere with your regularly scheduled programming...

Back in 2008, when the white space plan was first approved, the biggest concern was that using these airwaves for data transmission could interfere with TV signals. To mitigate those fears, white space devices will be required to query a special geolocation database, ensuring no signals are crossed.

...and that will have (literally) far-reaching benefits...

The advantages are already apparent. Google, for instance, already has a trial running in a Logan, Ohio hospital that's giving first responders and the hospital grounds alike super-speedy broadband. Wilmington, NC uses white-space to send real-time feeds from traffic and security cameras. And eventually, you would potentially be able to access your home Wi-Fi from several blocks away.
...though maybe not for a while.
So far, most of what we know about how the white space will be used is based on conjecture. There may be some proof-of-concept devices early next year at CES, and there may be more mass production of products in a year or two. But the first Super Wi-Fi projects are likely to be medical, municipal, large-scale. How long it takes for us to be always connected from anywhere and anything? That's up to the inventors and entrepreneurs to decide. Blog Flux Scramble - Email Encryption and JavaScript Protection Submit Blog Add to Technorati Favorites Add to Google Top Personal blogs

You are welcome to email or text me at +64211172222, about mobile phone repair, iPhone unlock at commercial level--nothing is free in this world ;-)
Unlock iPhone 3G/3Gs/3.1.3 topic has always been discussed everyday online. The reason everyone wants to unlock iPhone 3G/3Gs/3.1.3 is that iPhone can be even useful if you can install any applications you want. Also, if you unlock iPhone 3G/3Gs/3.1.3 you will be able to upgrade your device each time, without losing the previous unlock or jailbreak.
The first one to unlock iPhone 3G/3Gs with firmware 3.1.3 was George Hotz, the same who had made the same operations on the iPhone in 2007, which preceded the now legendary Dev Team.

Bellow we will offer you to safe solutions to unlock iPhone 3G/3Gs/3.1.3, one from Geohot and one from Dev Team. All the necessary software’s can be found on our website.

Let go first step by step, with Geohot procedure proposed, which consists of only 7 stages:

Step 1: Download purplera1n for Windows, and make sure you have installed iTunes 8.2.

Step 2: Run the purplera1n if you’re on Vista, make sure you run it with “Windows XP Compatibility” turned on, from “Properties” tab.

Step 3: Make sure that iTunes 8.2 is running.

Step 4: Click “make ra1n”

Step 5: Let the application do its job, waiting for the automatic restart apparatus;

Step 6: You should now have “Freeze” in the list of applications. Run “Freeze”, Cydia and download the applications.

Step 7: Reboot your iPhone 3G. Voila! You should now be fully unlocked and correctly executed jailbreak’s iPhone 3G, to use applications not available in the App Store, bypassing the distribution mechanism of Apple.

The DevTeam is very brisk and this is the note that accompanies the new ultrasn0w for the release of iPhone 3.1.3 3G:

1. Ensure You Have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.1.3
2. Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (Also this will install Cydia / Icy)
3. Run Cydia or Icy
4. Please add the repo to cydia or icy repo666.ultrasn0w.com
5. Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in icy or cydia and install ultrasn0w
6. Reboot your iPhone 3G
7. T-Mobile USA 3G users should disable before using ultrasn0w
8. Enjoy

Summary everything in a nutshell, after applying the jailbreak with the new redsn0w ultrasn0w you can install from Cydia repo indicated. A quick reboot and a “3G iPhone External 3.1.3 will be able to work with any sim card.

I remember that all this procedure is intended for holders of “old” iPhone 3G and the latest 3G iPhone. Having just come out, I invite interested parties to ultrasn0w to wait another few days to read the feedback from early adopters. http://alturl.com/hhga

Top iPhone Tips and Tricks You Didn’t Know About

So do you have your iPhone in Canada yet? Well, if you do here are a list of iPhone tips and tricks that you may or may not know about! These have been compiled off the web, courtesy of the MacRumors forum, and Macworld. Some of these I didn’t even know about! Let’s get on with the show!
iPhone: To stop an incoming call from ringing, press the sleep / wake button. To send the call immediately to VoiceMail, press the sleep / wake button twice.
iPhone: The home button can be used to access unlocking instead of sleep wake.
iPhone: You can get on the internet DURING a call! You can only do this if your connected to a WIFI network (it wont work via edge), just hit the home key and click on Safari. Now your surfing while talking! The person on the other end can’t hear the keyboard clicks either!
iPhoto / Photos: Create an Album (folder) called iPhone Wallpaper and load up your favorite 320×480 wallpapers. This makes it very easy to pick a new wallpaper on your iPhone.
iPhone: How to make full screen contact pictures
1. browse to the contact and tap edit.
2. tap on the photo.
3. tap edit photo.
4. after it opens in fullscreen, tap set photo and save the contact.
Keyboard: The trick David Pogue mentions for entering a period (hold down the punctuation key and then slide to the period and release) will allow you to enter anything on the non-alpha keyboard and return to the alpha keyboard in one swipe.
Keyboard: When typing a text message, hold your finger over the text field and it will enable a small magnifying glass that lets you move back and forward through text and spaces.
Keyboard: To type in all caps, go to Settings>Keyboard and make sure ‘Enable Caps Lock’ is ON. Then when you’re typing a message, just double tap the cap key on the keyboard and it locks.
Keyboard: If you are writing something and the iPhone flags a word as misspelled that you know is not misspelled, cancel the correction 3 times and the word will be put into the dictionary. If you write a lot, this feature is quite useful!
Keyboard: Shortcuts
1. Type “welll” (3 L’s) and the iPhone will auto correct to “We’ll”
2. Type “Helll” (3 L’s) and the iPhone will auto correct to “He’ll”
3. Type “itsa” and the iPhone will auto correct to “It’s”
4. Type “weree” (2 E’s) and the iPhone will auto correct to “We’re”
(In general, repeating the last letter will tell us its a contraction. The “itsa” is an exception since it could go either way. Think “it’s a…” No need for jumping over to the secondary keyboard at all for the apostrophe.
Google Maps: Typing in the three letter airport code while in maps will bring the airport up on the map. So if you are trying to view a map of say Renton, WA. Typing SEA (or sea) will bring up the Seattle airport. It’s relatively quick to zoom out, recenter over Renton, and zoom in again. It seems to recognize all primary and secondary US airports and many overseas airports as well.
Google Maps: Tapping on the address in your contacts opens it up in Google maps.
Google Maps: A two finger tap in google maps zooms out. this doesn’t really work anywhere else. one finger tap to zoom in, two to zoom out.
Safari: When you’ve scrolled down to the bottom of a page, and you want to go back to the top- just tap on the top bar of the phone (where the Rogers or Fido and the time is) and the page jumps right back up to the beginning
Safari: To email a page to someone tap on the address bar. The Share button on the top left will create a message for you!
Safari: Page down. When not using a zoomed-in display, double-tap towards the bottom of the screen. The page will re-center around your tap. Make sure not to tap a link!
Safari: Zoom onto a single picture. Double-tapping images in Safari zooms them to fit your iPhone display. If the picture is linked to a URL, this can prove a little tricky but it works great for non-linked images. Double-tap again to return to the unzoomed display.
Safari: Zoom a column. You can zoom text columns as well as pictures. Double-tap on the column to fit it to the display. Double-tap again to return out of the zoom. Not only does Safari zoom block-quoted text independently of regular text but if you move your finger after the first double-tap-to-fit, it interprets the next double-tap as a re-center page command rather than a return-to-previous-zoom. Smart.
Safari: Stopping a scroll. After flicking a page to get it to scroll, you can tap the page at any time to stop that movement. Don’t forget, you can also manually drag the screen display to reset the part you’re viewing.
Safari: You can type a website address without adding the ‘.com’ just like on Safari on a Mac.
Safari: Examining the URL. To peek at a link’s destination, touch and hold the link for a few seconds. You can also do this with images to see if they are linked. If a link appears and you don’t want to activate it, just slide your finger away until the destination text disappears.
Safari: Well just point your iPhone browser to a Video on google video and choose download for iPod/PSP and you can watch it right there in safari. This also shows that you can also watch videosin the vertical position not just landscape.
Safari: Set up a bookmark at the top of Safari’s list (just below History, which can’t be moved) that points to “about:blank” (In fact “about:ANYTHING” works just as well, I’m not sure if there’s some keyword I can put in to get anything special.) Anyway, I use the bookmark to switch to a blank page once I’m done browsing.
This helps by stopping Safari from trying to reload the last page I visited when I switch to it next time, thereby saving some time when I try to bring up whichever site I want to go to next.
Safari: Manual zoom. This is probably one of the most-advertised Safari features (along with the flip-the-phone-on-its-side-trick) but it’s worth mentioning again. To zoom into a Safari page, put your thumb and forefinger on the screen and move them apart. To zoom out, pinch the fingers together after starting with them apart.
iPod: When you’re listening to the iPod and u put your iPhone to sleep you can still use the volume rocker switches to change your iPod’s volume
Miscellaneous Tips:
Force Quit: To actually close (or Quit) an application, HOLD the Home button for about 4-8 seconds while in the application. Apparently this will save battery usage and will also keep it cooler.
stocks widget: If you touch the green/red boxes outlining the +/- movement of the stocks, it changes to displaying the %.
Screen: Something I’m doing right now. In order to use Safari horizontal without having the screen rotate, turn the iPhone counterclockwise with the home button towards the sky. Then simply lie on your right side and surf.
